Classy and Fabulous... Fancy Edition

Let's face it. I have a hard time getting dressed up. I really do. I just love me a fabulously comfy t-shirt layered with my typical cardigan, scarf, and skinny jeans. So when it comes time to get dressed for say... church... or oh goodness, a wedding reception!! I haven't a clue where to even start usually!

I had to go to said wedding reception a few weeks ago. I believe I tried on a gazillion and a half different concoctions of clothing. It was rough. My poor husband was so patient with me.

Then I happened upon this outfit...

Oh, this skirt! I like to call it my dancing skirt. It flows and blows in the breeze with such fabulous ease, it is amazing. Paired with my favorite thermal and chambray, I dressed it down to my liking. I was in love with the outfit... until I got to the reception and then I felt slightly under dressed...

skirt: target, thermal: free people, chambray: h&m, headband: oh, sweet joy!

For some reason, I always feel silly getting really dressed up. It is something I struggle with and I would love to change. I just don't know where to start to be honest... Any suggestions??

  2. you're already on the right track! i love the skirt and to dress it up a bit, i would add a pair of heels and a nice shirt or blouse. and if it's cold, just layer on a sweater. that's it! stopping by from wiww...enjoy your day;)

  3. with that fabulous skirt, you could wear a simple black top - instant glamour. boots with a heel would up the fancy factor too! i'd love to see you restyle with a couple fancier options and still feel like you! xoxo

  4. Love these photos! Yes, maybe a bit underdressed for a wedding, but I still love the outfit! I'm visiting from WIWW at the Pleated Poppy.

  5. Oh man, I am the same way about getting dressed up. I used to live at a camp year round so I literally wore no makeup, chacos and a t-shirt everyday. When I started working in an office I really struggled with how to look nice. Now, four years later I feel like I've got it figured out. But the truth is, the second I get home I put on sweatpants so I figured I'll always be a casual person :)

  7. I love this skirt- the color, the hemline, the pleats, the length, and I think what I really love about this skirt is how you casually dressed it. The chambray color really makes the skirt such a statement!

Stopping by from the link up! Happy Wednesday!

  8. First, I love your outfit. Fabulous color of the skirt.

Second, if I need to dress up, I stick with a dress. It's all one piece and I can't mess it up. You know? Do you have any dresses? I'm not much for the little black dress, because I rarely wear black, but I think on nice "wedding reception" dress is just the thing to have tucked in your closet.

That's my best advice, but I am, not by any stretch of the imagination, a fashion expert.

  9. I'm the opposity--I tend to be overdressed for the occasion because I love getting dressed up! That really looks like a perfect dancing skirt, though. I think the chambray top probably made it a little too casual for the situation, however.

  12. It's funny because I have the opposite problem sometimes. I love dressing up and often feel over dressed. This would be totally casual for me! But it is super cute, I love that skirt, it's flowy, pleated and high-low! The headband is darling too.
