Do you have one of those rooms in your house that just makes you smile every time you go in it? I do... and I am not ashamed to say that it is my little powder room... maybe a little strange I know but it is true!
Let me explain... I am a lover of quotes... I think they are wonderful little treasures! In my powder room, on the wall across from the sink and commode, is a huge wall collage with some of my favorite quotes in black and white on wood from Primitives by Kathy. They totally make the bathroom, I can't lie. Plus... how fun is it to have a little light reading while taking care of business right?!
I want the room overall to be an eclectic mix of all things fun and happy. I want it to be bright, cheery, and bold with lots of things to look and enjoy. I also want it to feel cozy, comfortable, and safe. So far, I hope I am getting that.
But I feel like there is something missing! Like the room is still a little bare, a little empty. I am feeling like I need to add some color to the walls. What do you think?
Right now, I am leaning towards this beautiful plumage blue. However, my fear is that it will make the room feel too dark. (PS... that green back there... that is the color in the boy's room!!! Stay tuned for a special post all about it!)
I also however think a beautiful gray would be nice... not too much like a black but not too light either. Something along these lines, maybe a little lighter...
and the third color I'm considering is more of a mocha/latte-ish brown. Not a real tan/yellowish brown, like this Benjamin Moore Rasin color. Isn't it beautiful??
So... Now that you are all briefed on the dilemma...What do you think? What color? Paint... or no paint...?

I am digging the blue!
ReplyDeleteI have the same bottle you have on your counter, just in a different color! Mine is from Saudi Arabia, where is yours from?
Oh I wish I could say it is from somewhere far and exotic like that!! No... I think I found it on sale one day at Urban Outfitters actually...
DeleteLove the blue! You should totally paint it blue!
ReplyDeletewhat about using white as a color?
ReplyDeleteI thought about that as well. Using a really bright pure white...
DeleteThe blue or grey would be really pretty!!! Are you thinking of doing just the one accent wall?! Then you could still do a dark color and it wouldn't really make the room look smaller.... ;)
ReplyDeleteIf that were my dilemma, I would totally paint the room that beautiful blue color, paint the under the sink vanity white, while painting the grooves by the raised panel the same blue color to make a picture frame effect. I've seen several powder rooms painted really dark and rich colors (chocolate brown, a dark burgundy, eggplant) and I don't think it harms the size ratio. I think it definitely adds a coziness to the room.
ReplyDeleteI think it would be lovely if you went with the rich blue color.... and then painted the under the sink vanity white, and use the same blue to paint the grooves... giving a picture frame effect. That gives you some creative room down the road to add beautiful fabric to that raised panel to give it even more ecclecticness (is that even a word?). I've seen many small powder rooms painted rich bold colors, and it tends to make the room feel cozy and inviting. =) Go for it!! =)
ReplyDeletePAINT!
ReplyDeleteBlue! (this is one of the students a couple of years younger than you from college. How funny I stumbled across you on Pinterest! I'm glad you're doing well)
ReplyDeleteI would say the Gray, but I think if you are keeping the quotes it might be too much. I like the idea fro above of the blue/white. Happy painting! (Our powder room is a terrible shade of Salmon, but it was the only room that was nicely painted when we moved it, so we left it! lol)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely blue!
